I don’t know about you but as a crafter I am always offered bits and bobs that most people might throw out. Sometimes they can be small like a piece of ribbon from a gift. Other times I get a gem that I an upcycle into a super practical item.
This was one of those Gems. I received this lovely Vanity Case from my sister-in-law one weekend and as soon as I say it I had the job for it. Sewing Box!

- Scrap Fabric
- Elastic Cord
- Buttons
- Glue Gun and Glue
- Scissors
- Old Milk cartons and water bottles
- Washi Tape
Method
So first thing I needed in my sewing box was a place to pit loose pins and needles. I had a bad habit of putting the needles in the spools of thread.
I took some foam I had from packaging and trimmed it into a nice square. I then placed some colourful scrap material over it and glued it into place. I put a good amount of glue on the inside lid of the case where I put the fabric covered foam.
Then I wanted to put some elastic cord in strips to hold scissors and measuring tapes. I took some gold elastic and threaded it through some buttons on each end. then I used a glue gun and attached it to the case
Now I wanted to organise my spools of thread and other sewing bits in the large part of the case. I had some milk cartons and bottles that I wanted to use for this. I cut of the top and do the looked like small boxes.
I took one of the small bottles and split it down each side using a sharp knife to make a shallow long tray. the groves in the bottle meant they slipped into each other easily. I then taped them into place
I then took some Washi Tape and put it along the edge to make it look prettier. I hadn’t used Washi tape very much before. just on some cards that was about it. I did notice that it didn’t stick to the plastic 100% but I think it looks ok.
Next I too a milk carton and trimmed it down to about an inch in height. I put Washi tape around the edge and the sides to decorte it a bit
I trimmed down a bottle that I wanted to use for small pins and taped the edge of it. I also took another milk carton and left it a bit taller. I decorated it with tape too.
Now its time to put it all together. Loads of room still to spare. What do you think?
